“I Love My Park Day” on Saturday May 6th at Taughannock Park from 9AM-4PM will be an exciting one. With several projects in the morning followed by live music in the afternoon, featuring Casey Max & the DixieKats and food from the Silo Food Truck. The United Way of Tompkins County is teaming up with Taughannock Falls State Park to make this years “ILMPD” event one of the biggest in the state.
We are planning several projects at the main park and also on the newly opened “Black Diamond Trail” that runs between Taughannock Falls and the Ithaca Children’s Garden.
In the main part of the park we will be; removing invasive species, planting and mulching, pruning, raking and seeding, sanding tables & chairs and refinishing, helping set up or swimming beach, staining signs and assembling/fixing picnic tables, along with general clean-up throughout the park.
On the Black Diamond Trail we hope to stain and finish fencing and install a trail marker sign along the length of the trail.
We will have rakes, shovels, and pruning shears available, if you are able to bring similar tools from home or palm sanders, dust mask for sanding, posthole diggers, and pruners, please do…we don’t want to run short.
Please let us know if any of the jobs appeals to you more than others, we will work to keep groups together and make this a fun, productive day. Be sure to wear long pants and work boots, bring work gloves if you have them, bring a water bottle….we will try and have water and snacks available. Please leave our four legged friends home for this event.
